Your Tampa solar app: the four numbers worth watching

Most owners check production daily for a month and never again. Here's a five-minute monthly routine that catches real problems.

A monitoring app that nobody reads is just a dashboard. Five minutes a month catches almost every fault worth catching.

1. Monthly kWh against the model

Your proposal included an expected monthly production curve. Compare actual to modeled. A single low month during a wet Tampa August is weather. Three consecutive months 15% under model is a problem.

2. Module-level output, if you have it

With microinverters or optimizers you can see each module. One module consistently below its neighbors on a clean roof means a hardware or connection issue, not shade.

3. Peak power on a clear day

Note the highest instantaneous output on a clear, cool day in February or March. That's your realistic ceiling. If next spring's peak is materially lower, something has degraded.

4. Consumption, not just production

If your bill went up while production held steady, the change is on the load side — a failing AC compressor, a stuck pool pump, a new EV. Production data alone won't tell you that.

Seasonal patterns that look wrong but aren't

  • Summer dips. Heat derates modules and Tampa afternoons are cloudy. Peak production months here are often spring, not July.
  • Morning ramp delays in oak-shaded neighborhoods are normal and were modeled.
  • A dusty spring after pollen season can cost a few percent until the first real rain.

When to call

Zero production from a whole string, a persistent inverter fault code, or a sustained shortfall against the model. See our maintenance guide for what routine service actually involves in Florida.
