What does solar panel uninstall and reinstall cost?
Pricing depends on system size, roof type and pitch, whether the array uses microinverters or optimizers, and how long the panels need to be stored. Every quote is itemized in writing after we look at the roof and the array — we do not price detach and reset sight unseen.
Is uninstall and reinstall the same as detach and reset?
Yes. Roofers and insurance adjusters usually call it detach and reset; solar companies call it removal and reinstall or uninstall and reinstall. It is the same scope: take the array off, do the roof work, remount and recommission the system.
How long is my system offline?
Usually the length of the roof job: three to seven days for a typical shingle replacement. Tile and metal roofs can run longer. Your utility bill goes back to normal grid usage while the array is down, then production resumes once we recommission.
Can you coordinate with my roofer?
We can — but we also do the roof ourselves, which removes the scheduling gap and the finger-pointing if something leaks later. One licensed contractor owns both the penetrations and the array.
Will removing the panels void my equipment warranty?
Not when the work is done by a licensed contractor to manufacturer spec. We label every module and optimizer, remount on new mounts and flashing, and document the reinstall so panel and inverter warranties stay intact.
Where are the panels stored while the roof is replaced?
Panels are crated and stored on site under cover or hauled back to our shop — never stacked loose on the driveway or leaned against the house where they get stepped on or cracked.
Do you reuse the old mounts and flashing?
No. The array comes back on new mounts with new flashing and fresh penetrations sealed to spec. Reusing old hardware on a new roof is the most common source of leaks after a detach and reset.
Does insurance cover detach and reset after storm damage?
It often does when the roof claim is approved, since the array has to come off to replace the deck. We itemize the removal and reinstall separately so your adjuster can review it as part of the claim.
