Separate stored energy from available power

Battery energy capacity and power output answer different questions. Stored energy helps determine how long a set of loads might run. Output limits what can operate at the same time. Starting an appliance can require more power than keeping it running. Ask the proposal to describe usable storage, continuous output and the equipment assumptions behind the backup plan.

Make your outage priorities specific

Refrigeration, internet, a few lights and selected outlets create a different scope from air conditioning, a pool pump and electric cooking. Use the backup planner to compare illustrative appliance combinations. Then bring the actual appliance and electrical equipment details to Origin so the selected circuits, startup demand and expected operating behavior can be reviewed.

Review the whole system connection

Adding a battery to an existing solar installation requires a compatibility review. The inverter, transfer or isolation equipment, electrical layout and control settings all matter. Discuss backup reserve, whether compatible solar can recharge storage during an outage, and what happens when available energy is low. The finished design should explain these limits before installation.

How long will a battery last in an outage?

Runtime depends on usable capacity, the appliances running, weather, and whether compatible solar can recharge the battery. A single blanket number is not useful.

Can a battery run my air conditioner?

Some configurations can, subject to the air conditioner’s startup load and the battery’s output. A load assessment is needed.

Can I add a battery to existing solar?

Possibly. Compatibility and installation scope depend on your current equipment, electrical layout, and desired backup capability.
