Lease, prepaid lease or cash: choosing how to pay for Tampa solar

Each way of paying changes who owns the system, who handles maintenance and what happens when you sell. A plain comparison for Tampa homeowners.

The equipment is the same. How you pay for it changes almost everything else.

Cash

You own the system outright. No monthly obligation, no third party in your title work, and the simplest possible home sale. The trade is capital up front and full responsibility for maintenance once workmanship coverage runs out.

Monthly lease

A third party owns the system and you pay a monthly amount for the power it produces. Maintenance and monitoring sit with the owner, not you. No up-front cost. The trade is a long-term agreement that a buyer must assume when you sell, and a payment that may escalate over time — read the escalator clause specifically.

Prepaid lease

One payment up front covers the full term. The owner still handles maintenance and monitoring, but you have no monthly bill. It sits between the other two: lower lifetime cost than a monthly lease, less responsibility than ownership.

The questions that actually decide it

  1. Do you plan to be in the home long enough for the term to make sense?
  2. Do you want maintenance to be somebody else's job?
  3. How comfortable are you explaining the agreement to a buyer in five years?
