Solar PPAs in Tampa: paying for power instead of panels

The appeal

No purchase to finance, no equipment to own, and a per-kilowatt-hour rate you can compare directly against your TECO or Duke rate. If the contracted rate is meaningfully below the utility rate, and the escalator is below expected utility inflation, the arithmetic favours you.

The variable to watch

Your payment moves with production. A sunny Tampa spring produces more than a cloudy stretch in July, so the PPA bill moves month to month. Homeowners who want an unchanging number often prefer a lease or prepaid lease instead.

The escalator

Most PPAs include an annual rate escalator. Ask for the rate in writing and calculate the per-kWh price in year fifteen. Compare that against a reasonable assumption of utility rate growth, not an optimistic one.

Selling the house

The agreement transfers to the buyer subject to the provider's process. Get that process documented before signing. Realtors in Tampa Bay handle solar transfers routinely now, but only when paperwork is available.
