THE SHORT ANSWER
Before calling a project complete, know whether operation is authorized, how to check the system, and who to contact for help. Keep the approval records and equipment documents somewhere you can find them later.
Keep the documents together
Save the equipment list, warranties, drawings provided for your project, invoices, and relevant approval documents in an accessible location.
Understand the operating status
Confirm whether the utility has authorized operation. Ask what remains before activation if the system is installed but not yet approved.
Set up monitoring
Learn how to access monitoring, what normal data looks like, and who to contact if equipment reports an issue. Monitoring depends on the selected system.
Know your support route
Keep installer and equipment support contacts available. Review maintenance guidance and avoid accessing rooftop equipment yourself.
Turn the conversation into a plan
Have the account owner open the monitoring app during the walkthrough. Verify the email address, account access, and the system name shown on screen. Ask what information to collect if something looks wrong: the alert message, when it began, and whether the home has internet access. Save support contacts outside the monitoring app as well. If you later sell the home or change internet equipment, these records can make a future handoff easier without depending on the original salesperson’s phone number.
