Identify the account before using a savings estimate

Check the utility on the property’s bill rather than assuming every Columbus address is served by the same provider. If the account is with AEP Ohio, its solar resources describe the review process for customer generation and its net-energy-metering service. Ask which tariff and supply arrangement the proposal uses. Avoid importing Florida export-credit assumptions into an Ohio model.

Distinguish generation from export credits

Solar used at the property, electricity purchased from the grid and surplus sent back are separate quantities. Request those assumptions alongside twelve months of actual kWh use. AEP Ohio points customers to its net-metering tariff; the existence of a program does not by itself establish a specific bill reduction for your property. Keep fixed charges and future use changes visible.

Treat outage backup as a separate design question

AEP Ohio notes that most solar panels shut off during an outage. If backup matters, list the circuits and duration you need, then request the compatible storage and transfer scope. Do not infer outage operation from the panel count or annual production estimate. Document the included equipment and limitations before comparing a battery option with solar alone.

Prepare the commercial or residential handoff

For a home, gather roof age, known repairs, shading observations and electrical records you already have. A commercial opportunity also needs roof ownership, tenant responsibilities, operating hours and the decision-maker. The review should identify local installation responsibility, permit and inspection ownership, and utility authorization before operation. Reps and dealers use the approved SellOrigin registration process so lead ownership and project documents remain connected.
