KUA solar interconnection: the three documents that start the review

KUA lists an application, tier-specific interconnection agreement and tri-party agreement. Keep all three aligned before expecting review to begin.

THE SHORT ANSWER

KUA says it needs the Application for Interconnection, the agreement for the system’s tier and a Tri-Party Net Metering Power Purchase Agreement before it begins processing a rooftop-solar application. [1]

Name the three records

Ask the project team to identify each file by its full title, revision date and signature status. A folder labeled “utility paperwork” can hide the fact that one agreement is absent. Save the files as separate PDFs so a correction to one document does not overwrite the others.

Match the customer everywhere

Compare the customer name, KUA account, service address and contact information on every document. Use the customer of record rather than the sales contact. If the account changes during the project, pause and ask KUA which records must be replaced instead of editing a signed form.

Tie the packet to one design

The module count, inverter capacity, storage equipment and gross power rating should describe the same proposal across the application, agreement and plan set. When equipment changes, ask whether a fresh form or signature is required. Keep superseded designs marked clearly so they are not resubmitted.

Track receipt and corrections

Record when the complete packet was sent, how it was delivered and any reference KUA provides. Save the full correction notice. “KUA is reviewing” is not enough when a missing signature or inconsistent rating is waiting on the homeowner or contractor. Assign every correction to a person and due date.

Separate review from activation

KUA describes application approval, final permit and bidirectional-meter work as distinct milestones. A submitted packet does not authorize parallel operation. Build the project calendar around evidence from each step, not an estimated activation date from a sales presentation.

Before your next conversation

  • Locate all three KUA documents.
  • Match the customer and service address.
  • Reconcile the equipment schedule and rating.
  • Keep KUA correction notices with the final packet.
