Selling a WREC solar home: prepare the member-account handoff

Separate cooperative membership, equipment ownership, financing and monitoring before the property closes.

THE SHORT ANSWER

A home sale can change the WREC member and property owner while separate equipment or financing agreements remain. Verify each relationship in writing.

Identify every owner

Use contracts and account records to name the home owner, equipment owner, borrower or lessor, WREC member and monitoring administrator.

Ask WREC about the incoming member

Confirm current account and customer-generation steps through the cooperative’s official channel. Do not guarantee that historical credits or terms transfer. Save the representative, date and case reference.

Deliver the system file

DOE advises keeping system and warranty information. [2] Provide utility approvals, permits, as-builts, equipment inventory, service history and monitoring transfer instructions.

Disclose open issues

Record alerts, roof concerns, unresolved transfers and missing documents. Use title, legal, lending, tax and insurance professionals for decisions within their disciplines.

Before your next conversation

  • Identify property and equipment owners.
  • Confirm WREC member steps.
  • Transfer monitoring and approvals.
  • Disclose open items.
