THE SHORT ANSWER
A new property owner may need to establish a SECO account and separately resolve equipment and monitoring rights. Start early and verify current requirements directly.
Identify the ownership model
Use the purchase, lease, power-purchase or loan documents to determine who owns the equipment and what transfer, payoff or consent steps apply. The roof equipment alone does not answer that question.
Ask SECO about the incoming member
Have the authorized parties confirm current account and net-metering steps with the cooperative. Do not guarantee that billing treatment, historical credits or approval terms move automatically.
Transfer operational records
Provide the final one-line, equipment list, permit and utility closeout, recent bills, monitoring invitation, warranties and service history. Note any unavailable password or open alert.
Use the right professionals
A solar inspection can document observed condition. Title, legal, lending, tax and insurance questions need the professionals responsible for those decisions. Coordinate deadlines before closing.
