A proposed substitute should be documented and reviewed before it appears on the roof. Compare the complete system effect, not only panel wattage.
Create a substitution notice
Record old and new manufacturer, model, quantity, rating, warranty document, price effect, schedule effect and reason for change. Require owner authorization using the contract’s change process.
Check technical compatibility
Review inverter input, module electrical characteristics, racking, rapid shutdown, storage, monitoring and service access. Similar brand positioning does not establish design equivalence.
Protect the approval record
Ask the permitting authority and SECO whether revised drawings, schedules or applications are needed. Keep their current guidance with the project decision.
Verify at closeout
Match safe-to-access labels and serials with the final accepted schedule. Update monitoring, warranties and owner records so future service begins with the installed—not originally advertised—equipment.
