ORPHANED SOLAR SYSTEMS · 2 MIN READ

Reconstruct a SECO utility file for an orphaned solar system

Recover approval, permit and equipment evidence when the original installer no longer supports the Central Florida home.

THE SHORT ANSWER

Use SECO’s member and interconnection records as one source of truth, then reconcile them with permits and the installed equipment. Do not invent missing approval dates.

Collect project identifiers

Gather member name, service address, meter identifier, permit number, former contractor name and any application confirmation. Keep financing records separate unless ownership authorization is relevant.

Request the cooperative status

Ask SECO what it can provide to the authorized member and what, if anything, remains open. Record the exact response, date, channel and reference number rather than summarizing it as “PTO.”

Check the physical system

Document accessible equipment labels, array layout, inverter state, disconnects, monitoring ownership and visible damage without opening energized equipment or climbing on the roof.

Define a new service scope

A replacement service provider can quote diagnostics, record reconstruction or repairs after review. That does not automatically transfer the closed installer’s workmanship promise, contract or warranty obligations.

Before your next conversation

  • Gather stable identifiers.
  • Ask SECO for the recorded status.
  • Document installed equipment safely.
  • Define new service boundaries.
