THE SHORT ANSWER
Tesla says Mobile Service Access lets its service team or the installer remotely access Powerwall after phone pairing. The app displays a banner, access can be turned off manually and Service Mode automatically expires after 30 days. [1]
Verify the requester
Enable remote access only for a support case or installer you recognize. Record the company, technician, case number and reason. A caller who cannot connect the request to your open service record should not receive access merely because they know the equipment brand.
Pair the phone through the official app
Tesla’s process requires the phone to be paired with Powerwall before Mobile Service Access is enabled. Use the account owner’s official app and current guidance. Do not share account passwords or one-time codes with an unverified third party; legitimate access should be visible in the system controls.
Capture the access window
Screenshot the Service Mode banner and note the date enabled. Tesla says it automatically turns off after 30 days, but the homeowner can disable it earlier. Agree on when the technician expects to complete remote work so access is not left open without a purpose.
Do not confuse access with authorization
Service Mode allows remote technical access; it does not approve a repair price, waive a warranty requirement or authorize changes owned by a lessor. Keep the accepted service scope and any manufacturer case separate from the app permission.
Close the case deliberately
After remote work, ask what was observed, what changed and whether a site visit is needed. Save the outcome, then turn off access if the work is complete. Origin can request appropriate access for accepted work, but a lead form alone is never a request to enable Service Mode.
Before your next conversation
- Match remote access to a verified case and provider.
- Record when Service Mode was enabled.
- Disable access after the agreed work is complete.
