THE SHORT ANSWER
Tesla’s Energy screen supports day, month, year and lifetime views and can export the selected period as CSV. For Powerwall systems, the export includes charge-level data at 15-minute intervals. [1]
Choose the period around the symptom
Start before the first known alert or odd behavior and end after it. A lifetime export can be cumbersome when the question concerns one afternoon outage. Keep the original CSV unchanged and create separate notes rather than editing the source file.
Name the components present
Tesla notes that some systems lack a site meter and therefore may not show every home or grid component. Record which graphs are available: solar, home, grid, battery and vehicle. A missing component can describe the metering configuration, not necessarily a new failure.
Read signs and units correctly
Tesla’s graph uses positive Powerwall values for discharge and negative values for charging; grid imports are positive and exports negative. Kilowatts are momentary power, while exported CSV energy totals and charge percentages answer different questions. Preserve headings with the data.
Add outside evidence
Pair the export with the utility billing period, outage notice, weather date and screenshots of any alert. Do not force utility and app totals to match without accounting for measurement boundaries and time intervals. The goal is a timeline a technician can test, not a homemade warranty conclusion.
Create a repeatable archive
Save a dated export periodically and after major service. If the original installer disappears, this history can show when reporting changed. Origin can review the record for supported maintenance work, while Tesla remains the authority for its app format and manufacturer support process.
Before your next conversation
- Export the smallest useful date range.
- Record which energy components are available.
- Keep the original CSV and supporting screenshots.
