Map the fixed and flexible loads
Central Florida cooling often operates during the same hot afternoon hours. List HVAC and refrigeration as less flexible, then identify EV charging, pool pumps, laundry, dishwashing and water heating that may move without disrupting the household.
Avoid creating a new spike
Moving every flexible appliance to 8:01 p.m. can create another large simultaneous load. Stagger start times and ask how the billing plan measures demand. Use the utility’s current definition rather than assuming a single instant or a particular interval.
Compare solar output timing
A west-facing plane may contribute later than an east-facing plane, but roof suitability, shade and complete annual production still matter. Ask the proposal to show roof-plane production and rate assumptions instead of choosing direction solely for one billing window.
Test the plan with actual data
After a billing cycle, compare the recorded peak with the planned schedule and note weather or guests. Adjust only one or two behaviors at a time. A rate plan is a household operating decision, not evidence that the solar array itself is malfunctioning.
