KUA explains that solar first supplies the home and only excess electricity flows through the meter to the grid for a bill credit. The export figure therefore is not total array production. [1]
Name each energy stream
The inverter or monitoring platform may report solar production. KUA records electricity delivered from the grid and excess sent to it; its tariff describes the excess-generation credit on the monthly bill. [2] Household loads can consume solar behind the utility meter. Label these streams before subtracting numbers that measure different boundaries.
Align the dates
Use the exact utility billing period and download monitoring information for the same start and end dates. Compare kWh, not the instantaneous kW displayed at noon. A calendar-month app chart rarely aligns perfectly with a meter-read period.
Check for storage flows
A battery can charge from solar and discharge later, adding another measurement path. Record the operating mode and whether the app shows battery, home and grid flows. Do not diagnose a production loss solely because exported kWh fell after backup-reserve or household-use changes.
Look for consistent patterns
Compare several similar billing periods, daily production curves and weather context. A sudden persistent drop, missing device or reporting gap deserves review. A single lower credit can also reflect greater daytime consumption, meter dates or seasonal production.
Prepare a service packet
