Start with why the module is leaving
Separate storm damage, isolated electrical failure, roof-work removal, warranty replacement and full repower. A functioning older module may have a different path from shattered or water-exposed equipment. Do not energize questionable components to test them without qualified assessment.
Confirm who owns it
Lease and PPA equipment may belong to a provider even when mounted on your roof. Warranty return rights can also control the disposition of a purchased component. Obtain written direction before transferring, selling or discarding anything covered by another party’s agreement.
Inventory before removal
Record manufacturer, model, count and serial numbers when safely accessible. Photograph condition and packaging requirements. This inventory supports a recycler quote, warranty case and system update. Avoid generic “twenty panels removed” receipts that cannot be matched to the array.
Verify the receiving path
Ask the reuse organization, recycler or disposal facility what models and conditions it accepts, whether pickup is included and what documentation it provides. EPA notes that regulatory status can depend on the waste and jurisdiction. Use qualified environmental guidance for the specific shipment.
Update the system record
