THE SHORT ANSWER
Meter work can coincide with changed readings or communications, but timing alone does not prove cause. Document both utility and solar-system evidence before requesting service.
Record the event
Save the meter-work date, utility notice, old and new meter identifiers if available, outage duration and the first unusual bill or app reading. Do not open utility-sealed or energized equipment.
Check safe homeowner indicators
Confirm internet service, app account access, inverter status visible through supported interfaces and whether production or only consumption data appears missing. Follow manufacturer instructions; avoid repeated breaker resets.
Align the datasets
Compare Duke billing intervals, exported energy and inverter production for dates before and after the work. Consumption sensors can be configured separately from the utility meter and may show reversed or implausible values after unrelated electrical work.
Split the service requests
Ask Duke about its meter and account data. Give a solar provider the monitoring screenshots, equipment models and event timeline. A coordinated record prevents each side from receiving only a vague “bill is wrong” report.
Before your next conversation
- Save the meter-work date.
- Check supported app indicators.
- Compare before-and-after data.
- Route utility and solar questions separately.
