THE SHORT ANSWER
An inverter replacement can alter ratings, certifications and system behavior. Document the reason for replacement and confirm the required approval path before work.
Diagnose before selecting
Save fault codes, monitoring exports, voltage observations made by qualified personnel, warranty correspondence and prior service work. A dead display or offline app does not by itself identify the failed component.
Compare old and new equipment
Record manufacturer, model, AC rating, DC limits, rapid-shutdown compatibility, communications and storage integration. “Same size” does not establish complete functional equivalence.
Ask the right authorities
Have the contractor confirm current permit and Duke requirements for the exact change. Preserve written determinations and revised one-line or equipment schedules where required.
Commission and hand off
Verify monitoring ownership, normal operating state, labels, shutdown information and any warranty registration. Keep removed-equipment details and the final replacement record for future claims and home sales.
