THE SHORT ANSWER
A property sale does not automatically transfer every solar relationship. Separate equipment ownership, financing, utility participation and monitoring access before closing.
Name every party
Identify the equipment owner, borrower or lessor, utility account holder, monitoring administrator and service contact. Use contracts and current account records rather than the seller’s recollection.
Ask Duke about the new account
Contact Duke through its current customer channel to learn what the incoming account holder must provide. Do not promise that an existing rate treatment or approval transfers unchanged. Save the dated answer.
Deliver the system file
DOE recommends retaining installer, warranty and system information. [2] Include the final equipment list, one-line, permit closeout, utility authorization, recent bills, service history and monitoring transfer instructions.
Disclose open issues
Document alerts, roof concerns, unavailable credentials or unresolved ownership questions. A service review can describe observed condition, but title, lending, tax and contract decisions belong with the appropriate professionals.
Before your next conversation
- Confirm equipment ownership.
- Ask Duke about account steps.
- Transfer monitoring and project records.
- Disclose unresolved issues.
